Living Waters

Arahaki Lagoon, Whirinaki

It was raining lightly as I walked through the ancient Whirinaki forest to the Arahaki lagoon and to capture this photograph I had to wade out into the deep, still waters. As I stood there composing the shot I was struck by the entrancing silence, broken only by the occasional plop! of a raindrop falling from the leaves of a tall kahikatea tree into the clear water below. It is that peace and tranquillity that I have tried to portray in this image.
